A free secret concert in the heart of Kreuzberg – an exciting challenge for our team.
A well-known German rapper wants to abseil from the roof of an apartment building on the 6th floor to a stage in the middle of Kreuzberg in November 2022, and then give an open-air concert there.
We were then to livestream the event with multiple cameras for his 1.7 million Instagram fans. Instagram does not allow external professional technology that accesses the so-called “RTMP standard”. Therefore, for this event, we could only work with smartphones and the Instagram app itself.
A few impressions from the event in video form:
To enable the live stream, we first set up our own high-speed WLAN near the stage. The Internet was secured via several LTE networks as well as a LAN line from an office (network bonding).
The cell phones used were new Samsung smartphones with particularly powerful zoom cameras, some with additional lighting on stage.
The live stream ran on the channels of Amazon Music Germany, the artist’s label and the Instagram channel of the musician himself. The cameras were connected in an Instagram video call.
Since Instagram doesn’t allow pro live streams on the platform, we had to forgo our live direction, sound direction and the like and deliver both image and sound directly to the smartphones.
Too bad: Instagram video calls are optimized for voice, not for music, the quality accordingly somewhat disappointing. We therefore continue to recommend that all of our customers handle live streams via platforms that allow professional setups, such as YouTube, Twitch or Facebook.
Nevertheless, from a visual and creative point of view, the event was a spectacular experience !Â
